Squirrel Season Opens Sept. 2

Squirrel hunting season opens on Saturday, Sept. 2, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) predicts hunters will be finding an above average number of squirrels throughout the state, particularly in areas with quality oak and hickory trees. Competition during this hunting season is low, making it a great way to introduce novice hunters and youth to the sport. It also benefits experienced hunters by honing their skills before other seasons open. Squirrel season will run through Jan. 31, 2018, with a daily limit of six fox and/or gray squirrels combined and a possession limit of 12. There are no restrictions on the shooting hours.
