Sioux Center Teacher Facing At Least 140 Counts Of Sexual Misconduct And Abuse

A Sioux Center teacher is now facing 84 felony counts of sexual abuse, 37 counts of lascivious acts or conduct, 14 felony counts of sexual exploitation by a teacher and five counts of indecent exposure. Sioux City television station KCAU reports that 35-year-old Curtis Van Dam was a teacher at Sioux Center Christian School when the first reports of suspected sexual abuse were made in October. In a press release, Sioux Center Police say that a complaint was made with their department on Oct. 18 of Van Dam’s sexual misconduct with another teacher and a student at the school. The initial complaint involved only one student, but now, Van Dam is alleged to have preyed on numerous students with crimes taking place at the school as well as other locations. The incidents are believed to have started in August of 2013 and occurred through October of this year. School officials say Van Dam was relieved of his position when the first allegations were made. The investigation continues and more charges are possible.
