Senator Ernst Gives Squeal Award To EPA For Fancy Phone Booth

Senator Joni Ernst names a wasteful Washington expense, program or concept that she believes needs to be reigned in every month, and for October, she is presenting her Squeal Award to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Ernst says that our national debt surpassed $20 trillion and is on the rise, and yet the EPA has reported the construction of a custom-made, soundproof communications booth for Administrator, Scott Pruitt, with a cost just shy of $25,000. This “Fancy Phone Booth,” as Ernst calls it, is an unnecessary accommodation. She says that an area to privately consume and discuss classified information by staff and administrators is already provided through a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF). This personalized phone booth is an addition to that and is costing taxpayers more than usual. She assures constituents that she has reached out to the EPA for more answers.
