Scranton Officials Ask For A Hand With New Park Friday And Saturday

A new park and playground equipment is being erected in Scranton tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday and the city is sending out a call for volunteers to lend a hand. The park was chosen by the city council to be the Scranton School Memorial Park and is located near the intersection of State and Eagle Streets. It takes many hands to put everything together. Parks and Recreation Board Member, Whitney Hoyle, says there is a need for all types of volunteers.

The $75,000 park and playground equipment is funded primarily through grants, the two biggest being from the Greene County Community Foundation for $27,413 and the Wellmark Foundation for $10,000. The remaining funds were generated through a number of smaller grants and from community donations. Hoyle says Scranton was in “dire need” of a new park.

She says once it is complete, the new park will have many pieces for kids to enjoy.

Volunteers are asked to meet at city hall at 7:45 a.m. Friday and Saturday before work starts at 8 a.m. Each person will need to sign a waiver before they will be permitted to help. The city requests anyone wanting to help contact them first by calling 712-652-3888, but Hoyle says they will not be turning away volunteers. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided for those assisting in the project.
