SCCC Hit Hard By Illness-Related Absences

The South Central Calhoun Community School District posted photos of empty lunch tables on their Facebook page yesterday, reporting they are experiencing an unusually high number of illness-related absences. They say that nearly 30 percent of high school students are home sick as well as 10 percent of their middle school. State regulations require that schools report to the Iowa Department of Public Health illness absences of 10 percent or more. KCCI Television is reporting that there are 44 Iowa schools who have reported to the Department of Public Health. Healthcare authorities are reminding everyone to wash their hands thoroughly, to stay home if you are ill and to conduct a deep cleaning and disinfection, especially of the most often used areas and items.
