Sauk Rail Trail Spring Ride Kicks-Off Biking Season

The weather is getting warmer, and the rains will hopefully be abating soon as Pat Staiert and other Sauk Rail Trail supporters gear up for the second annual Spring Bike Ride. Staiert, the owner of Iowa E Bike in Carroll, got things rolling last year, and hopes to build on their success.  The event will begin and end in Maple River at Whiskey Run, and there will be something to for riders and non-riders alike. Staiert says this year’s ride boasts nearly $7,000 in raffle items alone; and in addition to four bicycles, accessories and other items, getaways will be raffled off as well.

The 33-mile asphalt and concrete trail is maintained by Carroll and Sac County Conservation Boards and is proud to be the first Iowa trail to connect two state parks—Swan Lake State Park and Black Hawk State Park. The funds raised through the spring ride go back to support the efforts of both conservation boards in the maintenance and development of the trail. Just recently, fix-it-stations were added along the route that travels through Carroll, Breda and Lake View.

The family-friendly, free event takes place Sunday, April 30, from 2 to 5 p.m. Staiert says everyone is invited to attend.
