A Sac City man has died in a house fire Monday morning. The Sac City Police Department reports that at approximately 7:35 a.m., the fire and police departments were dispatched to 307 South 13th Street in Sac City. Upon arrival, officers were advised by 76-year-old Barbra Cook that her husband, 84-year-old Dale Cook, was still inside the residence. Officers were unable to enter due to the heavy smoke, but once Sac City firefighters arrived on scene, they were able to enter and located Mr. Cook, who was already deceased. Barbra Cook was transferred to Loring Hospital in Sac City with non-life threatening injuries. Dale Cook’s body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for an autopsy. The fire remains under investigation, but authorities say it does not appear to be suspicious. The Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Sac County Medical Examiner are assisting with the investigation. Sac County Emergency Medical Services and the Sac County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
