Regional Unemployment Rate Down From Same Time Last Year

The regional unemployment rate has decreased by just short of a full percentage point compared to last year at the same time, down to 3 percent from 3.8 percent in 2016. For the state, the rate dropped from 4.2 percent to 3.3 percent. Western Iowa Advantage tracks the rates in an eight-county region on numbers reported by Iowa Workforce Development. In August of 2017, Ida County recorded the lowest rate in the region at 2.5 percent, followed closely by both Adair and Carroll Counties at 2.6 percent. Sac reported 2.8 percent unemployment for the month while Greene and Guthrie Counties both came in at 3 percent. Audubon and Crawford had the highest rates in the area at 3.3 and 3.8 percent respectively.
