Open Enrollment Request Denied By CCSD School Board Due To Insufficient Space In Classrooms

A request from the family of a kindergarten student to open enroll into the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) was denied Monday by the school board. The deadline to submit open enrollment requests falls on March 21 each year and usually applications do not come before the board. Superintendent, Rob Cordes, says the circumstances required them to make the final decision in this case.

Cordes expressed concerns about accepting the application, citing lack of space as the primary reason for not favoring approval.

Board President, Jen Munson, noted she had been personally contacted by some of the kindergarten teachers who also felt their classes were becoming too large. Cordes suggested denying the request would be the best choice for the district.

The board did unanimously vote to deny the request. They finished by saying the student would likely be approved for next year if applications are submitted before the deadline.
