One Person Killed And Another Hospitalized After Accident Near Harlan

One person has died and another is hospitalized after a two-vehicle accident west of Harlan Thursday afternoon. The Iowa State Patrol reports they were notified of the accident at the intersection of Highway 44 and county road M16 at approximately 4 p.m. A 2005 Ford Taurus, driven by 52-year-old Ronald Gene DeBoodt of Shelby, was southbound on M16. DeBoodt failed to stop at the posted sign at the intersection and collided with a 2010 Nissan Versa, driven by 58-year-old Nancy Louise Madsen of Persia. Madsen was pronounced dead at the scene and DeBoodt was transported to Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan by Harlan Emergency Medical Services. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Harlan Fire Department assisted at the scene.
