Northwest Missouri Football Player Injured In Accident Has Local Ties

Two football players with the 2016 Northwest Missouri State football team were injured in an accident north of St. Joseph, Mo. on Interstate 29 last night (Tuesday), and the passenger, 22-year-old Jacob Vollstedt of Iowa City, is the nephew of Steve and Janell Vollstedt of Manilla and Brad Vollstedt of Manning. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at approximately 7:50 p.m., 22-year-old Cole Forney of Maryville, Mo. hit a slick spot, sending his pickup truck into a concrete barrier. The vehicle then burst into flames with Vollstedt trapped inside. Both men were taken by ambulance to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. The latest reports say that Forney has been moved to Kansas University Medical Center and is in stable condition and Vollstedt has been released from the hospital.
