No Foul Play Found In Cerro Gordo Inmate’s Death

The Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) has released the name of the Cerro Gordo County inmate found unresponsive in the detox cell on Thursday, March 23. Fifty-four-year-old Taras Devlin Roan of Mason City had been arrested in the evening of March 22, by the Mason City Police Department for assault and public urination. He was alone in the detox cell, which was monitored by a video camera. An autopsy was completed by the State Medical Examiner’s office on Saturday, March 25, and the cause of death was determined to be a heart attack related to atherosclerosis disease. The manner of death was deemed natural and no signs of trauma were found during the autopsy. The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) determined there was no foul play in Roan’s death.
