Newell Man Arrested After Attempting To Cash Forged Check

At approximately noon on Tuesday, the Storm Lake Police Department apprehended a Newell man suspected of several check forgeries. The department was first notified at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning of suspected forged checks that were cashed at Citizens First National Bank’s main branch in downtown Storm Lake. Officers met with bank staff who identified 25-year-old Kyle Klink as the person who had allegedly forged three checks on March 23 and another at the bank’s north branch on March 27, in all totaling $5,400. At about noon, the department was dispatched to the north branch on a report of Klink allegedly trying to pass another forged check. Klink had become suspicious and fled as the passenger in a waiting vehicle. The car was stopped as it exited the bank’s parking lot and Klink was taken into custody. Several stolen checks were located in the vehicle and Klink was charged with ongoing criminal conduct, a class B felony, five counts of forgery, class D felonies, and possession of stolen property, a simple misdemeanor. He is currently being held in the Buena Vista County jail on a $25,000 bond. The Buena Vista County sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene of the traffic stop.
