New Immunization Requirements For Iowa Students Entering 7th-12th Grade

The Iowa Department of Public Health is now requiring seventh through 12th grade students to receive an additional vaccination before the first day of the 2017-18 school year. On top of the 10 other vaccination regimens required by the state, a meningococcal immunization has been added to the list. The new treatment for admittance to classes requires one dose of meningococcal vaccine received after 12 months of age if born after Sept. 15, 2004. A different option is available for individuals born between Sept. 15, 1999 and Sept. 15, 2004, two doses are required or one dose if received when the student is 16 years of age or older.  Iowa schools will turn away students if these requirements are not met. If you are unsure if your child is up to date on vaccinations, contact your primary health provider. A full list of vaccination requirements can be found included below this story.
