New CCSD Policy Changing Way Teachers And Students Can Communicate

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education has adopted a policy regulating the way teachers communicate with students outside of classrooms. Teachers and coaches can now no longer directly text their students or athletes. Superintendent, Rob Cordes, briefed the educators before school started.

Teachers and student organization leaders are allowed to use social media and other internet technologies for their classrooms, but they must be maintained separately from any personal accounts. Cordes told the board members the CCSD staff member were notified the change was coming.

The second reading was approved and will go into effect once published. The policy intends to protect the district and its staff from any possible issues or concerns. Cordes says they want to bring in a technology specialist to cover technology use more in depth.

Under the policy, the superintendent is responsible for designating a Director of Technology and Technology Instructional Coach to oversee and maintain the district’s technology resources and their use.
