Nevada, Iowa Man Seriously Injured In Single-Vehicle Accident Friday Morning

A Nevada, Iowa man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident early this (Friday) morning. At approximately 5 a.m., the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a motorist had come upon a man in the middle of the road who had severe facial and other bodily injuries. The passerby loaded up 31-year-old Jeremy Paul Weigel and transported him to St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Sheriff Ken Pingrey says that Weigel had driven his 1999 GMC Suburban into the ditch near 140th Street on Highway 71 north of Carroll. He struck a culvert dead on, and authorities say he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. He was able to free himself from the vehicle and get onto the highway before the Suburban caught on fire. Breda Fire Department was called to extinguish the blaze. The incident remains under investigation and charges are pending. Authorities believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the accident. The Carroll Police Department and Carroll Rescue also assisted at the scene.
