MidAmerican Energy has announced the third site for their Wind XI project in Powesheik County. Construction has already started on the North English wind farm, with a completion date in December of 2018. This will add up to 170 new wind turbines with a combined capacity of 340 megawatts of new wind generation. This will also result in an estimated $137 million in property taxes and up to about $114 million in landowner lease payments in the 40-year lifespan of the project. MidAmerican is also working with developers, county officials and landowners for more wind farms sites in other counties across the state for the balance of this project. Construction will start in those locations in 2018 and 2019. The Wind XI project is expected to generate about $1.2 billion in economic benefits while also adding hundreds of new permanent jobs, and all with no increase to customer rates or assistance from the state.
