Manure Tanker Tips Near Willey Tuesday Night

An unknown amount of manure wound up in the Willey Branch after a tanker tipped over near Willey this week. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the tanker, owned by Neese, Inc., was hauling waste from the Matt Gehling confinement and tipped late Tuesday night. It discharged manure into a nearby ditch with some of the spill ending up on the roadway. The DNR quickly constructed berms to prevent additional waste from entering the stream, which is a tributary of the Middle Raccoon River. The DNR has not determined how much manure was spilled and has not reported any fish kills as a result. An investigation is ongoing, and enforcement action may be considered pending results from that investigation.
