Machine Shed A Total Loss In Fire Near Lidderdale

The Lidderdale Fire Department responded to a machine shed fire at approximately 7:45 p.m. Monday night. Fire Chief, Terry Daniel, says the fire at 14374 Mahogany Ave. was on the Craig Wiederin farm, and it did extensive damage to an open-ended shed and some of the contents.

Daniel says that they are not 100 percent certain what started the fire, but there is some speculation as to the source.

This is a busy time of year for farmers, and that means it is also a busy time for area firefighters. Daniel says they see more tractor, combine and field fires, especially in dry conditions. The recent wet weather has helped keep the number of field fires down this year, but he says it is still a good idea to take precautions.

Rumors ran rampant on Facebook that there were propane and anhydrous tanks on the site, but those were only partially true.

Crews remained on the scene for approximately four hours battling the blaze. The Carroll and Breda Fire Departments assisted at the scene.
