Loring Hospital in Sac City has become aware of a phone scam that is utilizing their caller ID and attempting to sell medical equipment. The callers are using a technique known as “Caller ID spoofing” where the phone number indicated to the receiver appears to have originated locally, but in fact could be coming from anywhere in the world. Loring Hospital wants all area residents to know that they are NOT making these calls, that they do not sell medical equipment nor would they ever ask for any credit card information over the phone, including for bill payment. When Loring does contact a patient, they will clearly identify themselves and define the reason for the call, which will not include the selling of equipment or a request for financial information. If you receive one of these calls, please hang up to avoid any potential fraud and report the incident to local law enforcement.
