Lidderdale Fire Department Called Out To Second Farm Fire In A Little Over A Week

At about 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, the Lidderdale Fire Department responded to their second farm fire in a week and a half. Chief, Terry Daniel, says a field fire turned into a tractor fire as well at 160th Street and Phoenix Ave., west of Lidderdale. John Kanne, who was on site at the farm owned by Wayne Pudenz, told Daniel he believed a failed bearing on the combine started the fire that then spread to a John Deere tractor.

Daniel says about 20 acres of standing corn was also lost. The Lidderdale and Carroll Fire Departments spent around an hour at the site battling the blaze. Although October started out quite wet, high winds have dried things out considerably and Daniel continues to tell farmers to take a few precautions to ensure this doesn’t happen to them.

Daniel adds that the Lidderdale Fire Department had not had a fire for nearly a year, and now this fall, they have responded to two fires between Oct. 16 and Oct 25.
