Let The Voting Begin! Absentee Ballots Now Available For Carroll Library And City Hall Referendum And At-Large Carroll City Council Seat

Last Friday, July 7, at the end of business was the deadline for Carroll residents to file paperwork to be included on the ballot for a special election on Tuesday, Aug. 1. Carroll County Auditor, Kourtney Irlbeck, says that the special referendum election by the City of Carroll for the proposed public library and city hall projects meant they had to include the at-large Carroll City Council seat on this ballot.

The at-large seat opened mid-December last year when council member Brandon Vonnahme’s change of residence moved him outside the city limits. LaVern Dirkx was appointed by the council to fill the seat until the next election, and he has joined Ronald “Woody” Beyer and Matthew Hodges in a bid for the remainder of the term into 2019. Absentee ballots are available and that voting period is open. Irlbeck says there will be a very small window for absentee ballots that have to be mailed. The last day her office will be able to mail out a ballot is Friday, July 28. However, people will be able to vote in person at the Carroll County Auditor’s Office in the Carroll County Courthouse up until Election Day, Aug. 1, at 11 a.m. Irlbeck says the referendum on the library and city hall projects requires more than just a win by popular vote.

Irlbeck also wants to be sure residents are clear on who is eligible to vote on the referendum.

Because the council seat is an at-large position, all City of Carroll residents can vote on that item as well. A full listing of polling locations for this election and contact information on absentee ballots can be found below.
