Lake View Prepping Black Hawk Lake For Summer With New Dredger

The City of Lake View is preparing Black Hawk Lake for the summer rush with the arrival of a dredger Friday morning. The city has joined with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources in a $2 million project which aims to keep the water not only clear, but free of pollutants. Mayor, John Westergaard, explains how the new method works.

Dredgers operate by moving sediments from one area of the lake to another. This is not the first time the city has made efforts to keep the waters clear. Last summer, the method produced substantial results.

The dredger is not owned by the city and is provided by the DNR. Lake View has a vested interest in keeping Black Hawk Lake available for recreational use as it serves as a draw for visitors and business.
