Lake City’s Brick And Mortar Program To Increase To $20,000 This Year

The city council in Lake City is preparing to award up to $20,000 in loans to businesses in town to help them make improvements to their physical locations. The Brick and Mortar grant program was created two years ago by the city in an effort to ease the burden of expensive repairs to some of the town’s older buildings. City Administrator, Eric Wood, explains how the program works.

The city had two applicants approved in 2016, and Wood says the program is working exactly as intended after he saw the results.

The Brick and Mortar fund had money left over from those awards. Wood says the council is using those funds to expand the program.

Those applications are up for approval at the next city council meeting on Dec. 4. Since its inception, the program has performed as intended and Lake City officials hope to continue to expand upon these efforts.
