Jefferson Woman Reports Friend For Stealing Car, Both Get Arrested

A Jefferson woman and her boyfriend were arrested after she reports a stolen car. At approximately 8:01 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17, 45-year-old Jennifer Marie Ashby contacted the Jefferson Police Department, telling them she had loaned her car to a friend, but it had not been returned. She would not, however, provide specific details and asked that the officer not come to her residence, she only provided a name. About 20 minutes later, Ashby called back, saying the vehicle was returned and the male was present, but he would not relinquish the keys. An investigation into the incident began when the officer arrived at the residence in the 100 block of East Central Avenue, and revealed the car had not been stolen. The male was her live-in boyfriend, 42-year-old Jodi Lyn Schad, and Ashby admitted to fabricating the story after an argument. Schad was taken into custody when the officer learned he was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant from Polk County and Ashby was arrested for false report to police, a serious misdemeanor, and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor.
