Jefferson Teen Arrested After Fleeing From Police

A 16-year-old male was arrested in Jefferson after fleeing from law enforcement Sunday afternoon. At approximately 12:28 p.m., an officer with the Jefferson Police Department located two males pushing a vehicle in the 700 block of West Wall Street. While stopping to assist, he requested identification from the individuals. One male gave his name and date of birth, but the officer was unable to confirm his identity. The suspect fled when additional information was requested. Authorities pursued the teenager to 902 North Pinet St. and detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the residence. A different male spoke with law enforcement at the home, confirmed he had smoked marijuana earlier in the day and turned over a smoking device and small baggie of a green, leafy substance. At this time, the suspect came outside and was arrested for interference with official acts and providing false identification to an officer, both simple misdemeanors. A search warrant executed the same day revealed multiple narcotic-related items that were taken for lab testing. Future charges are pending in the investigation.
