Jefferson Man Reports Being Pulled Over By Suspicious Unmarked Vehicle

The Jefferson Police Department received a report of a highly suspicious situation that occurred Tuesday evening in the 300 block of North Locust Street. At approximately 9:05 p.m. Josh Thompson called to report he had been pulled over by an unmarked sedan with red and blue grill lights. A male, dressed in black and wearing a badge on a lanyard around his neck, approached Thompson and requested to see his driver’s license, saying he had been pulled over because he had a non-working registration plate light on the rear of his vehicle. The man went back to the sedan, returning momentarily with the license. Thompson said he felt uneasy about the situation. Neither the Jefferson Police Department nor the Greene County Sheriff’s Office have an unmarked vehicle matching Thompson’s description. Authorities want to remind the public that if you are being pulled over, select a well-lit area, and if you question the validity of what is happening, call 911 and advise the dispatcher of your location. They will be able to verify the authenticity of the stop or send officers to your location if needed. Any law enforcement officer should immediately identify themselves and the agency they represent. This incident remains under investigation.
