Iowa Named Number One Place To Retire In 2017

Even though we didn’t crack the top 10 in any of the five rankings in health and longevity, personal safety, climate, economic factors and the proportion of older residents, Iowa landed at number one on Money Rates list of best states for retirement in 2017. Iowa did score above average in each category, which helped catapult it to the top of the list. So if you are looking for a smooth, relatively headache-free retirement, Iowa is the place to be. Surprisingly, only three warmer-weather states made it into the top 10. Hawaii was number two on the list, despite having the highest cost of living in all 50 states. Eastern states ranked well with Maine listed at number three, New Hampshire at four and Vermont at five. As expected, Florida was one of the most popular retirement states at number six, but a couple of surprises followed with Idaho at seven and South Dakota at eight. Arizona and Connecticut came in tied to finish out the top ten. The worst states for retirement included Alaska, Louisiana and Georgia. Details about each state can be found by following the link included below.
