Iowa Forest Nursery Offering Online Sales With New Purchasing Limits And Allowable Uses

It is now easier than ever to order trees through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) Forest Nursery with a new online site. Users will find dozens of quality, native Iowa trees and an easy check-out process simply by logging on to www.nursery.iowadnr.gov. The Forestry Nursery is also making changes to how their stock can be purchased and used in an effort to offer bulk buying of trees to a wider audience. Customers can now purchase trees in bundles of 25, compared to previous minimums of 200. Seedlings can be used for any purpose, including windbreaks and decorative landscaping and people who purchase nursery seedlings can resell or give them away. Previously, state law dictated that nursery stock had to be planted by the purchaser. There are three different sizes of 20 species of native hardwoods, nine evergreen species and 14 smaller trees and shrubs available for purchases at prices ranging from 30 cents to $1.40 per seedling. Orders can be placed between Aug. 1 and May 31 and purchasers can select their shipping window for delivery. Fall shipments will begin the last week of October and spring shipments begin April
