Iowa DOT Reports Sharp Increase In Traffic Fatalities For 2016

The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) has released a report showing that roadway fatalities in Iowa skyrocketed in 2016, ending the year at over 400. With nearly 100 more fatalities than in 2015, AAA is asking motorists to consider working on becoming a better driver be added to their list of New Year’s resolutions. There are several simple steps that can be taken to improve driving, including: resolving to drive impairment free as this is responsible for killing more than 10,000 Americans each year; to pay more attention to the task at hand by removing distractions such as cell phones, personal grooming and food; resolving to slow down; to move over for emergency vehicles; to wear your seatbelt; and to drive with a relaxed, positive attitude. AAA reminds everyone that driving is a privilege, not a right, and that the two ton vehicle you are driving and the people around you deserve respect.
