Iowa DNR Asking For Special Considerations During Upcoming Paddlefish Season

Missouri and Big Sioux paddlefish season opens Wednesday, March 1 and will run through April 15. Anglers who have a valid Iowa fishing license, a special paddlefish license and an unused transportation tag can fish from sunrise to sunset during the season. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is asking, however, that if a jaw-tagged fish is caught, that the phone number on the tag be called. The fisherman will need to report the tag number, date of capture, location and eye-to-fork length of the fish. This provides them with valuable information on the population size, their movement and growth. They are also requesting that the survey card be returned following paddlefish season whether a fish was caught or not. More information can be found by logging on to www.iowadnr.gov/paddlefish.
