The Iowa Department of Education released two new features of the Iowa School Report Card Thursday which reflect a more complete picture of student progress in public schools. The system is a web-based effort to evaluate public schools based on their performance on a required set of measures such as: math and reading proficiency, student academic growth, narrowing achievement gaps, college and career readiness, attendance, graduation rates and staff retention. Based on these ratings, schools are scored as exceptional, high-performing, commendable, acceptable, needs improvement or priority. Iowa Department of Education Director, Ryan Wise, says, “While this resource can help school improvement efforts locally and statewide, data and ratings do not tell the whole story, and I encourage Iowans to connect with their community schools to learn more.” Nearly all the schools in our area received an “acceptable” ranking or better with the exception of East Sac County High School, which received a “priority” score. A listing the local public schools’ overall rank can be found below this story along with a link to the full Iowa School Report Card information.
