Impaired Driver Responsible For Head-On Collision Sunday On Highway 30 Near Scranton

Two people received non-life-threatening injuries in a head-on collision Sunday on Highway 30 north of Scranton. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office received the report and responded to the scene near the intersection with E Ave. at approximately 6:09 p.m. Forty-nine-year-old Paul Askvig of Apple Valley, Minn. was westbound on Highway 30 in a 2010 Town and Country minivan when he crossed the highway’s center line, striking a 2016 Prius, driven by 76-year-old Paul Herrick of Perry. Both Herrick and his passenger were transported to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of injuries. There was an estimated $6,000 in damage to the Askvig vehicle and the Herrick Prius was totaled. Askvig was arrested and charged with operating while under the influence, first offense, and driving left of center. The Jefferson Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
