Hausbarn Heritage Park Continues To Celebrate History Throughout The 2017 Season

More than 300 people made the recent 100th birthday celebration of the Leet-Hassler farmstead at Hausbarn Heritage Park in Manning a resounding success. Visitors included people of all ages, as well as a German couple who have an historical tie to the park. Rudolf and Ingrid Kraut now live in Des Moines, but as a German native, Rudolf was one of the volunteer masons who helped with the reconstruction of the 1660s German Hausbarn in 1999. While the Percheron-fueled wagon rides were a crowd favorite all the way around, the petting zoo and old-style games were a hit with the younger attendees, while the accordion music and the tours of the various park buildings were said to be the favorite parts of the day for others. The park is busier than ever, with more than 50 events, tours and bookings already scheduled for 2017. From June 21 to July 4, they will commemorate “German Iowa and the Global Connection” with a traveling display of posters, pictures and other memorabilia in the Fireside Room of the Hausbarn Konferenz Centre. There is no charge for viewing the display and Iowa history lessons will be available for teachers. And on June 25, a program called “Turning Community Stories into Theater” will be hosting a play titled “Here I’m Hank: A German Immigrant’s Story.” More information about upcoming programs and tours can be accessed through the contact information provided below.
