The Halbur Fire Department was called to the scene of a small garage fire about one mile east of Halbur last night (Wednesday). At approximately 8:54 p.m. a fire was reported at a home owned by Scott Rotert at 23785 Hawthorne Ave. The fire was discovered when a member of the household smelled smoke and ran to a neighbor for help. After the neighbor called 911, he used a nearby fire extinguisher to prevent the blaze from spreading. Firefighters only required about 50 gallons of water to put out the fire. Damage was primarily caused by the smoke and limited to items in the garage. No injuries were reported during the incident. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene.
