Hagge Park Hosts Traveling Prairie Exhibit Through End Of The Year

The Sac County Conservation Board (SCCB) introduced a new, traveling exhibit this week that will make its home at Hagge Park near Sac City until the end of the year. The display focuses on Iowa’s tallgrass prairies and opened to the public today (Wednesday) in the conservation center. Naturalist, Megan Cook, says the exhibit includes a lot of information through panels, pictures and history for people to learn about the ecosystem which previously covered most of Iowa.

Tallgrass prairie used to make up about 85 percent of the state’s ecosystem. Now, only 0.1 percent of that remains. The exhibition aims to increase awareness about how important the prairie was to Iowa’s history. The exhibit will remain open to the public until Friday, Dec. 29 and is suitable for all ages and interest levels.

The Tallgrass Prairie exhibit is made possible through funding from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) grant and the Iowa Association of Naturalists. Following its visit to Sac County, the display will travel next to Ida County. A full schedule of availability for the exhibit can be found included below.
