Grassley Stunned By Prospect Of Filibuster On Gorsuch Nomination

Senator Chuck Grassley, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Wednesday that he is stunned they may be facing a filibuster on the appointment of Judge Neil M. Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court. Grassley said he and his colleagues over the past week have seen an incredible legal mind and a humility that keeps Gorsuch grounded and free from outside influence. “It’s quite clear that if he isn’t qualified, then nobody is,” Grassley said. He added that if they would filibuster this judge, it is obvious they would filibuster anyone. Grassley was joined by a number of the judge’s clerks who know him better than most, and Grassley said, “I think they’d agree with one of the judge’s colleagues who wrote, ‘I’m not sure we could expect better, or that better presently exists.’”
