Glidden City Council Gathers Information For Possible Water And Sewage Rate Increase To Fund Wastewater Project

The Glidden City Council is considering increasing water and sewage rates to help offset the high costs of an expected wastewater treatment update. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) requirements require the city to update their water management facilities, and early cost estimates place that project around $3.5 million. The council requested City Clerk, Suzy Danner, gather more information on rate changes for future discussion.

Each June, water rates tend to increase about three percent based on changes in the Consumer Price Index. This year’s increase might be more to reduce the “sticker shock” on the cost of the project if they were to perform the changes at all at once. Danner says the council has not taken any formal action on the rates, and when they do make changes like this they are sure the public has time to voice their opinion.

The next meeting is Monday, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. in the Glidden City Council Chambers.
