A Fort Dodge man had died following a single-vehicle accident on Labor Day in Audubon County. At approximately 7:32 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 4, the Iowa State Patrol and Audubon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of an accident on Highway 71 just north of Brayton. According to initial reports, 27-year-old Lucas D. Degen, of Fort Dodge, was traveling southbound in a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. He lost control of the vehicle and rolled, coming to rest on the roof of the Jeep in the west ditch against several trees. Degen was pronounced dead at the scene. Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the accident. The Iowa State Patrol is heading the investigation into the incident.
