Former Perry Post Office Receives Historical Preservation Award

The former Perry United States Post Office is one of six projects that received recognition with a Preservation Project of Merit Award from the State Historical Society of Iowa. The awards, which were presented at the 2017 Preserve Iowa Summit in Fort Dodge, recognize these projects as ones that exemplify the best of historic preservation practices. La Poste Perry, the former Perry Post Office building renovation, received the Adrian D. Anderson Award, which recognizes outstanding historic preservation of a project having total qualified costs of $500,000 or less. The building was constructed in 1913 in the Beaux-Arts classicism and was used as a post office until the 1960s, at which time it was purchased by the local school district for use as administrative offices and classrooms. The building was vacated in 2012 and fell into disrepair before recently being purchased by a local group of women who began the renovation. The newly renovated La Poste Perry houses event space for weddings, workshops, receptions and special occasions, hosting more than 120 events in 2016 alone.
