Former Denison Resident And Wife Come Home For Reunion, Leave With $1 Million Powerball Prize

A former Denison resident came back to Iowa for his high school reunion and went home a $1 million Powerball prize winner. Wayne and Vicki Dixon of Allen, Texas came back to Iowa last week for the celebration, but the retired pair arrived back in the area a day earlier than expected, only to find that there were no available hotel rooms in Denison. They decided to spend the night in Avoca, and Vicki went into the Wings America Travel Centre to buy a lottery ticket as Wayne fueled up their car for the final leg of their trip back to Denison. That ticket stayed in her purse past the Wednesday, Aug. 9 drawing, until Saturday morning, but when she checked it, she found that all of the first five numbers matched, with only the Powerball being missed. The Dixons plan to pay some bills and save the rest of their net winnings, $700,000 after federal and state withholding.
