Forgery Charges Up To Nine As Investigation Into Newell Man’s Check Cashing Scheme Continues

On Tuesday, March 28, the Storm Lake Police Department apprehended 25-year-old Kyle Klink of Newell as he fled the north branch location of Citizens First National Bank in Storm Lake. Klink had become skittish when he became aware employees were suspicious of his alleged attempt to cash a forged check. Klink was then charged with forging checks totaling $5,400 at that location and the main branch in downtown Storm Lake on March 23 and March 27. The department has now reported their investigation revealed an additional charge for another check cashed at that financial institution as well as three more counts for allegedly forging checks at the Citizens Community Credit Union in Storm Lake on or about March 21 and 22, for a total of $1,900 from that institution. The additional charges bring the total to nine counts of forgery, class D felonies. Klink was also charged with ongoing criminal conduct, a class B felony, and possession of stolen property, a simple misdemeanor, and the Storm Lake Police Department has seized a vehicle in connection with the investigation. He remains in custody at the Buena Vista County jail. The investigation continues and additional charges and arrests are possible.
