Exira Fire Chief Says Fire Is Contained

Exira Fire Chief, Mike Bintner, tells Carroll Broadcasting Assistant News Director, Nathan Konz, that they have managed to contain and suppress the early morning fire that spread from a local bar west up their downtown district.

Bintner confirms that the department will need to remain on the scene to monitor the site for the next 24 hours or more.

He says they can’t thank everyone enough for how they have stepped up and taken care of the firemen and those impacted by the fire. His department was the first to report at about 2:30 this morning (Friday) when the fire broke out at Jerry’s Joint Bar at 100 West Washington Street. Issues with getting enough water to the fire brought in more than 20 other fire departments and more than 70 firefighters to supply the manpower needed and to help haul in water by tankers to battle the blaze. The fire spread from Jerry’s west, heavily damaging or destroying Jerry’s Joint Bar, an apartment building, Gabby & Crabby and Jon Bauer Psychiatry. No injuries have been reported.
