Estimated $8,000 Total In Damages From Two-Vehicle Accident Monday In Carroll

There was an estimated $8,000 in total damages in a two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 30 and Monterey Drive in east Carroll. At approximately 4:06 p.m., the Carroll Police Department responded to the scene to find that 31-year-old Stephen Franklin Stonebraker of Des Moines was driving a 2002 service panel van eastbound on Highway 30, driving in the inside lane. At the same time, a 2014 Ford Focus driven by 45-year-old Irene Kathryne Schroeder of Carroll, was also driving eastbound, but was driving in the outside lane. Stonebraker was moving into the turn lane at the intersection to make a left-hand turn onto Monterey Drive, and Schroeder failed to see the Stonebraker vehicle and made a left-hand turn in front of the van. Stonebraker struck the driver side of the Schroeder car, resulting in an estimated $6,000 in damage to the Focus. The van’s airbags deployed and there was an estimated $2,000 in damage to the front and driver’s side of the Stonebraker vehicle. Carroll County Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene, but neither party was transported by them for treatment. The Carroll PD reports that Schroeder was later transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by family at a later time for evaluation of possible minor injuries. Stonebraker was uninjured.
