The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking public comment on their newly released list of impaired waters that shows 56 previously identified problem areas being removed from the list. Of the 1,378 water segment monitored, 327 fully met Iowa’s water quality standards, 301 were identified for further investigation and 750 segments were deemed impaired. “The increase in impaired waters does not necessarily mean that water quality in the state is worsening, it often is a reflection of the additional monitoring we are conducting,” says Roger Bruner, supervisor of the DNR’s Water Monitoring and Assessment section. The DNR continues to identify and improve water quality and is encouraging citizens to contact them with their thoughts and concerns by Monday, May 29 at the address included below this story.
