The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) appointed a new leader Friday to head the Field Services and Compliance Bureau. Jason Marcel supervised the DNR’s Air Quality Emission inventory and Support Section for the last 11 years and has been with the DNR for 19 years in total. The bureau includes many DNR staffer who explain scientific, legal and regulatory details on the rules which protect Iowa’s air, land and waters. Marcel plans to explore new technologies and continue improvements to the DNR’s programs to ensure the social and economic benefits a well-maintained environment provides. “Jason’s career demonstrates his ability to help citizens, business and industry achieve compliance with some of Iowa’s most complex environmental programs,“ says Bill Ehm, head of DNR environmental services. Marcel graduated with a bachelor’s in Environmental Management Systems Science and a minor in Chemistry from Louisiana State University. He will be replacing the former chief, Barb Lynch, who retired in December after 38 years. Marcel officially begins his duties March 10.
