DMACC And AARP Offering Prizes For Innovative Aging Concepts

Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) has partnered with AARP to create a Disrupt Aging Innovation Concept Challenge in connection with Celebrate Innovation Week 8 (CiWeek 8). Contestants will have the chance to win up to $1,000 and attend a DMACC course free of charge for submitting an idea for a product, service or tool that will positively impact the lives of those age 50 and over. The Disrupt Aging Innovation Concept Challenge hopes to inspire contestants to think of ways to improve the quality of life for those aged 50 and over as well as confronting ageism and challenging perceptions of what it means to age. Anyone 14 years of age or older can submit an idea by following the link included with this story on our website. Finalists will be announced Thursday, March 2 during AARP Director of Market Innovation, Jeffrey Makowka’s, CiWeek 8 keynote address. Finalist will then be paired with mentors from SCORE, a nonprofit that helps start-up business owners achieve their goals, to prepare a 10-minute “Shark Tank-style” pitch. Those will then be presented March 16 at Edgewater, a WesleyLife senior living community. Application deadline is Feb. 24. CiWeek 8 will run from Monday, Feb. 27 through Friday, March 3 at the DMACC West Des Moines campus.
