Different Spokes For Different Folks Brings Community Together To Support All-Inclusive Playground

This coming weekend there will be another fundraising opportunity for the support of Kellan’s Kingdom, the first all-inclusive playground in our area. Long-time Carroll resident, Lynda Dukes Franey, says she jumped at the opportunity to help out for this cause.

Dukes Franey, who has worked on a variety of different poker runs, joined forces with Bowe Kinkade, a well-known area establishment manager, to put together the Different Spokes Charity Ride. And as the name suggests, this is a different kind of poker run than we have seen before.

The route will not be announced until the day of the event, Saturday, July 15. It will start and stop at the Piranha Club with registration at 11 a.m. and the ride beginning at 1 p.m. or so. Dukes Franey says the only thing she will say is that the routes are planned to the west on both the roadways and the Sauk Rail Trail, with motorized vehicles covering more miles. Everyone will then meet back at the Piranha Club for more activities.

Dukes Franey says that when she first heard about the concept of an all-inclusive playground, she wasn’t really sure what that meant. What she did know is that Kellan has needs that are different than other people.

She says it is amazing the way people are responding to the project and how giving they have been. This is just one more thing that Carroll can say puts them in the lead in creating things that other communities just don’t have. They have set their eyes on the goal and are confident the community is going to make it happen. The Different Spokes Charity Ride is only one of the ways people can help support the playground. If you can’t come on the ride, everyone is invited to the Piranha Club for live entertainment with Rob Schulz from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and FireWire from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. as well as silent and live auctions. All Carroll banks are taking monetary donations for Kellan’s Kingdom and Dukes Franey would be happy to collect items for the auctions or cash donations. Her contact information as well as links to the Kellan’s Kingdom website and Facebook pages can be found below. A listing of all items to be included in the auction can be found on the Different Spokes Charity Ride Facebook page as well, and they will be updated through the event.
