Developer Buys Derelict Property For $1 In Lake City

A derelict property in Lake City is getting cleaned up after the city council transferred the title to a developer. The council voted to approve selling the plot during a meeting Monday night. The property, located at 507 Edna Street, was sold for $1 but included the stipulation the new owner build a new home on the land in the next two years. The original title-owner signed it over to the city nearly two years ago. The new titleholder, Leon Tiefenthaler, of Breda, has plans to build a spec home and later put it on the market. The $1 dollar sale may seem like an unusually low value, but the city will recoup costs through tax collections over the lifespan of the building. City Administrator, Eric Wood, indicated this is a common practice for cities to abate problem properties within its limits.
