Designate O’Driver sTEP Initiative Deemed A Success By Area Law Enforcement

The most recent sTEP (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) effort by area law enforcement officials was conducted over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday, from March 15 through the 18. The “Designated O’Driver” initiative identified a goal of raising awareness about all areas of traffic safety, with a focus on impaired driving and seatbelt usage. Reports have come in from the Carroll and Jefferson Police Departments and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office with what all are saying were successful results in attaining those goals. The three agencies investigated a total of four property damage accidents, with one personal injury accident, and issued 73 tickets and 265 warnings, including four citations for operating while intoxicated, 11 seatbelt tickets and 26 speeding tickets.
